Disability access and inclusion are essential components to creating a more equitable and fair society for individuals with disabilities. Disability access and inclusion refers to the measures taken to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate fully in all aspects of society without any barriers.

Disability access includes the physical environment, such as buildings and transportation, and digital access to information technology and online resources.

Inclusion involves creating a culture of respect and support for individuals with disabilities and providing accommodations to ensure they can participate fully in all activities and opportunities.

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is our plan to promote and enhance the inclusion of people with disabilities who live, work, or play in the City of Casey.

The DIAP will outline specific actions to improve accessibility and remove barriers for people with disabilities. It will include goals and strategies for improving physical and digital access, promoting inclusive communication and engagement, and ensuring that policies and practices consider the needs of people with disabilities.

We’re undertaking community engagement in two stages to establish our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP)

Our first stage of consultation involves broad community engagement where we are looking to learn and understand more about the challenges members of our community may be facing when interacting with Council or throughout the City of Casey.

During this phase of engagement, we’re also undertaking targeted engagement with our Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Group (DAIAG) through several facilitated workshops and meetings.

Feedback from these facilitated workshops with DAIAG and the broader community will be collated and summarised to help draft the Disability Inclusion Action Plan.

Our second stage of consultation will take place in mid-2024 and involves additional engagement with DAIAG members and the broader Casey community on our draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan. We’ll engage with our community to ensure our draft plan meets community needs and expectations.
