Open for exhibition

Our Draft Affordable Housing Strategy articulates Council’s vision for a city where all residents have access to secure, appropriate, and affordable housing.

Affordable housing is defined as housing, including social housing, that is appropriate for the needs of very low, low, and moderate-income households.

In 2019, the City of Casey undertook community consultation to gauge residents understanding of the issue at a local level, and to help shape the draft strategy that we have on public exhibition today.

In summary, Council received 319 submissions, with more than 60% of respondents saying they do not know where to go for help in the event of housing challenges. Respondents also showed overwhelming support in favour of Council taking action to help increase the supply of affordable housing.

Following this engagement, Council used the feedback provided to help shape its Draft Affordable Housing Strategy 2020-24, which we are now consulting on.

The Strategy outlines our involvement in this space and showcases the actions outlined to facilitate affordable housing in our community.

We are committed to understanding the needs of our community and working with partner organisations, to assist with the provision of affordable housing in Casey through a range of measures.

The Affordable Housing Strategy was noted by Council in December 2020. You can view the adopted document here.

Council’s Affordable Housing Strategy was funded through the Social Housing Investment Planning (SHIP) grant, which Council successfully secured funding from in 2018, via the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
