Arts and Culture during Covid-19

31 March 2020

While the Arts and Cultural Advisory committee is not currently meeting formally, we invite you to keep updated on how the City of Casey is supporting our creative community while we are all in "hibernation".

Look through the News, Stories and Ideas and Document Library sections and please contribute to our activities. Other ways to keep in contact are through our facebook page @artsincasey and our arts email arts@casey.vic.gov.au .

Key News

An Artist Register database is being developed for artists working in all art forms to self register and upload their material for access on our Casey Arts web page. The need for an Artist Register was raised by committee members last year and it is a project that our events and arts staff are keen to make happen.

Casey Arts will officially become a brand to make all that we do identifiable to the public. This includes our social media and signage on the Art Spaces in libraries. This initiative addresses consistent feedback that told us our Art Spaces were hard to find in some library branches. It will also help to distinguish arts activity in the community from the Bunjil Place brand.

Many of you will be aware that unfortunately the Winter Arts Festival has been cancelled. We are aware that this is a huge disappointment to the arts community, so we are looking at our capacity to hold an alternate event, possibly in November. As you would understand, a lot will depend on what happens with the COVID-19 restrictions.

We are bringing back our arts newsletter in a bi monthly communication exchange and as our primary publication. Our new content will bring together lengthy news, features, what's on information and invite community journalism and contributions. It will also feature special editions for festival and art space programs.

This new publication will be sent by direct mail to subscribers and be available in a printable .pdf format from our website, thereby aligning with City of Casey's commitment to digital first publications. The bi monthly format is also in response to requests for supporting a more frequent release of news and event information. Together with our Facebook page, we are confident that our new newsy newsletter will comprehensively replace our current quarterly Arts News release.

Please join in the conversation on these topics in the Stories and Ideas tabs on this page.
