Final design of the dog-friendly park.

Council invited community feedback on the proposed dog-friendly park at Berwick Springs Wetland Reserve, with consultation closing on 30 March 2025. In response to growing demand for dog-friendly spaces, three potential locations were assessed, but two were ruled out due to flood risks. The chosen site is already well-used and features amenities such as a tennis court, basketball court, fitness equipment, public toilets, and a playground.

As part of our Dog Friendly Spaces Policy we are committed to include:

  • Fencing (with multiple entry/exits)
  • Drinking fountain
  • Seating
  • Bin dispenser
  • Landscaping

Consultation closed Sunday 30 March 2025 at 11.59pm.

Construction will commence October/November 2025.

How we chose the location

How we chose the location for the dog friendly park

  • Option 1 & 2 - Melbourne Water land

Melbourne Water approved a dog park with secure netting, but City Assets and Planning drainage engineers deemed both sites unsuitable due to flood risks, as shown on the map.

  • Option 3 - Casey land

The third option, near Berwick Springs Tennis Courts, is viable due to no flooding and amenities like courts, fitness equipment, and a playground, making it the best choice.
