About the Program
The City of Casey's Nature and Sustainability Community Leadership Program expressions of interest are now open. This free program is for new, emerging and existing community leaders aged 18 years and over, who want to develop their leadership skills, deepen their understanding of environmental and sustainability issues and First Nations connection to Country, and build social cohesion by bringing community together around shared environmental action.
In this program, you will:
LEARN
- Understand Country, First Nations culture, and why place matters
- Learn how climate, environment, and community wellbeing are connected
- See local climate impacts and solutions through real Casey examples
- Understand how Council works and how change happens locally
- Clarify your purpose and leadership strengths
- Learn how to engage communities respectfully and inclusively
- Build confidence to communicate clearly and tell your story
- Develop skills to work with others and build partnerships
- Turn ideas into practical, community-led projects
- Identify where small actions can create big change
- Learn how to lead long-term projects, stay motivated, and be resilient through change
- Build ongoing support networks and commit to future action
At the conclusion of the program, graduates will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing networking opportunities where they can connect with other community leaders and alumni and continue their leadership journey.
Get involved!
You do not need formal qualifications, a project plan, or in-depth knowledge of the environment, sustainability and climate change. We are seeking participants passionate about these areas, eager to learn more and lead nature or sustainability projects to address local issues in Casey.
The Community Leadership Program aims to represent Casey’s diversity and is inclusive of all genders, age groups, abilities, Aboriginality, cultures, language backgrounds, sexual orientation, education and employment status. The recruitment of participants will aim to reflect diversity in Casey.
Support will be available for all participants who need it. For example, childcare, digital access, translators and disability access.
If you are a Casey resident aged 18 or over who:
- Can commit to attending all the workshops (see Workshop Details document in the FAQ section for workshop dates)
- Has an interest in developing your leadership skills
- Has a desire to lead nature, climate or sustainability projects to address local issues in Casey.
There are up to 30 places available in the program and participants will be selected through an Expression of Interest process which will include an assessment process.
To submit an Expression of Interest, please complete and submit the EOI application (see below) by 5.00 pm on Monday 27 April, 2026.
As well as the eligibility criteria listed above the selection panel will also consider:
- Geographical representation from across the City of Casey
- A range of cultural backgrounds, abilities, gender, sexual orientation and ages
- Diversity of personal and life experiences
