Why is Council developing a Master Plan for the DPIP site?

DPIP is not currently serving the needs of the community as a seasonal outdoor facility with no learn to swim opportunities due to the pool’s depths and lack of covering. The facility is also 50 years old, therefore due to its ageing assets and condition, it would not be financially prudent to redevelop without first undertaking a master plan to identify the needs in the area and ensure the site is fit for purpose.

What will this redevelopment mean for what’s currently on the site?

The Master Plan for DPIP will investigate the delivery of aquatic education and multi-purpose program space to meet the demands of the existing and future local community as well as the associated infrastructure and potential partnerships within the area.

Through the Master Plan process, the City of Casey will liaise with the City of Dandenong due to its proximity to Noble Park Aquatic Centre and many other key stakeholders.

Will the 50-metre pool stay?

As mentioned, DPIP is not adequately serving the needs of the community as a seasonal outdoor facility, with no learn to swim opportunities due to pool depths and lack of covering. The facility is also 50 years old, therefore due to its ageing assets and condition, it would not be financially prudent to redevelop without first undertaking a master plan to identify the needs in the area and ensure the site is fit for purpose. With this in mind, Council will assess all of the feedback received throughout the consultation period and use this to help determine whether the 50 metre pool is still a viable option, or if there is a more fit for purpose option that better meets the current and future demands of the site.

Is there a timeframe and when will the Master Plan be complete and shown to the community?

Council are striving to complete the Master Plan by 30 June 2020; however, this is a large undertaking and may require additional time to ensure an achievable outcome is reached.

How long will we have to provide feedback?

Phase 1 - Public consultation was open for 1 month in October 2019.

Phase 2 - Will be taking place once the concept plan has been developed for community feedback.

Stay tuned!

What will happen with my suggestions?

Your feedback will be used to help shape the Doveton Pool in the Park site. We will also use your feedback to see if there are any gaps in the facilities and services we provide. Ideas will also be considered for inclusion in future Capital Works Programs.
