The Endeavour Hills community that resides in close proximity to Essex Park has been engaged by the City of Casey to provide feedback on the draft activation plan for Bushland Reserve, located between the park and Dandenong Police Paddocks.

The following design consideration were proposed by Council to improve the activation of the bushland, create a connected passive open space and reduce anti-social activity through strategic environmental applications:

  • Connect to existing path network
  • Primary node, seating, feature icon trees and future outdoor gym
  • Primary trail, gravel 2.5m width
  • Seating
  • Secondary node, seating and possible art work
  • Way-finding signage
  • Primary signage inc map
  • Future viewing deck inc interp opportunities with the creek
  • Future grass open area interfacing the creek
  • Future potential for restructuring the creek to include rock weirs and areas for ponding. Explore water quality improvements
  • Future bridge crossing the creek
  • Future connection to Dandenong trail
  • Future connection to shared path/pipe track trail Proposals are indicative only and are subject to further consultation, detail design, authority approvals and budget

The community response was overwhelmingly positive and further strengthened Councils intent to implement changes that preserve the native feel of the bushland, create focus around safe and accessible pathways that are clearly signed. Provide opportunity for exercising, dog walking, seating, artwork and access to surrounding trails.

Council also received a strong response for suggested improvements to the park and its existing amenities. Whilst the project scope focuses on the improvement and activation of the bushland, the feedback received will be documented to strengthen the future strategic development of the park.
