Consultation was open from 14 April to 22 September 2024 and is now closed.
In 2022, the City of Casey received funding from the Victorian Government’s Living Local Suburban Grants Program to revive Hotham Street Shops Cranbourne. This funding will be used to deliver streetscape renewal works and amenity improvements to revive the strip and attract more interest and foot traffic, support traders and foster a sense of pride of place with the business owners and residents.
In April 2023, we engaged the community to seek feedback on plans to revive Hotham Street shops, Cranbourne. Community input contributed to the concept design. The construction is now complete.
Design intent
The concept design was influenced by feedback received, which highlighted the need for improved landscaping, seating, street art, footpaths and lighting.
The design theme draws inspiration from the rich and vibrant aesthetics of South Asian culture, including the curry leaf as the concept story. The colour and material palette chosen in the design is deeply rooted in the cultural context of Hotham Street, reflecting its diversity and connection to local cultural heritage. Four strategically chosen nodal spaces along Hotham Street will be the primary focus of our design. These spaces received comprehensive upgrades, including pavement improvements, the creation of more garden beds with new trees, and the replacement of existing seating.
Art Integration
City of Casey collaborated with local artist Abby Rich to design, fabricate, and install permanent artworks that adorns the pavement and the new furniture. These artworks are intended to engage and delight community members of all ages, with a special focus on creating a playful atmosphere for children. Art patterns will feature colourful elements and whimsical shapes infused into the shopping strip with fun and brightness. Patterns inspired by curry leaves and seed pods will be prominently incorporated into the nodal spaces, seamlessly blending with the landscape design theme and the selection of plants.
Construction was completed in 2024 for the community to enjoy.
