Introduction

The City of Casey is home to one of the largest populations of children and young people in Victoria.

Council currently operates 50 kindergartens across the municipality, offering both three and four-year-old sessional kindergarten, and manages the central enrolment for sessional kindergarten programs in Casey. Council also partners with Kids First, who manage the Orana and the future Clyde Township kindergartens and Early Childhood Management Services (ECMS) who manage Quarters Primary School Kindergarten.

The State Government’s Best Start Best Life policy reforms, which include making kindergarten free for three and four-year-olds, transitioning four-year-old kindergarten to pre-prep and increasing the number of hours for sessional kindergarten, are likely to have an impact on the way the City of Casey delivers its kindergarten service in the future.

Although the full suite of changes doesn’t need to be implemented until 2032, we are undertaking work now to understand what impact these changes may have on our infrastructure and service delivery.

We want to hear from families who currently have children attending a City of Casey kindergarten program, or who are likely to use a Casey kindergarten program in the next few years, what you look for in a kindergarten and the things that are most important to you when choosing a kindergarten or preschool service for your child.
