Project objective

The Casey Community Local Law is designed to help everyone in the community live safely, respectfully, and harmoniously. It sets out basic rules to manage things like how properties are maintained, the use of public spaces, and how people interact with their neighbourhood.

We are seeking feedback from our community regarding the Community Local Law and

What can the community influence?

  • Potential new ideas for inclusion in the revised Local Law aligned with protection of amenity and the roles of Council. Example: inclusion of clause related to storm water infrastructure on private land.
  • Review of the current Casey Community Local Law 2023.
  • Community perspectives on how the Casey Community Local Law can be effectively communicated with the community.

What can’t the community influence?

  • Compliance with the requirements and Principles of the Local Government Act 2020.
  • Council's legislated and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Fines, fees and charges applied by Council and other organisations.
  • Council policies, guidelines and permits.
  • Application and enforcement of the Local Law and other regulatory enforcement by other agencies (Victoria Policy, Environmental Protection Agency etc).

Commencement of the new Community Local Law 2025

2026The new Community Local Law 2025 will come into effect in 2026.


Decision-making process

Following the close of community engagement on 1 June 2025, community and stakeholder feedback will be analysed and considered when reviewing the Community Local Law 2023.

A Community Engagement Summary report will be developed and shared with the community via Casey Conversations.

Draft documents will be developed and put on public exhibition in August 2025 (to be confirmed). Our councillors can hear submissions at a special council meeting in October 2025 (to be confirmed).

Council will consider the documents at council Meeting in November 2025.
