New district and local level playgrounds are funded by the Capital Works Program and are delivered within the financial year. The works will include a new playground which is compliant with Australian Standards.

The local level, Galloway Drive & Robinswood Parade Reserve playground, Narre Warren South, will be refurbished during the 2020/2021 Financial Year.

After receiving feedback on what you wanted at the playground we now have the draft playground proposal for you to view.

Update 1 December 2020

The City of Casey recently heard from 22 residents regarding the draft playground design for Galloway Drive & Robinwood Parade Reserve, Narre Warren South. The main themes addressed in the comments were the provision of; a basketball court, fencing, shade, park furniture, rubbish bins, toilets, dog park, more swings (disabled), inground trampoline, flying fox and nature play.

Basketball

A basketball court cannot be accommodated for in this ‘local level’ reserve. The nearest basketball court is at Sabel Drive Reserve, Cranbourne North which is less than 1km away and there is also one at Berwick Springs Wetland Reserve approximately 1.5km away.

Fencing

Fencing this reserve has been highlighted and added to our fencing program. The fencing treatment will include a bollard and rail fence to the perimeter of the reserve (the playground will not be directly fenced) and sections near to the playground will be infilled with black cyclone mesh to prevent children accessing the road.

Shade

The provision of built shade by form of sails will not be included in this design. There are numerous large canopy trees on this site currently that provide natural shade. The new design has allowed for additional tree planting adjacent the playground to provide shade and an opportunity for ‘nature play’ for children (detail not included in the design).

Park Furniture

An allowance has been made for the installation of new park furniture (seats/picnic tables) on completion of the playground.

Rubbish Bins

Rubbish bins will not be provided. It is expected that if members of the public bring rubbish/litter into a park they have the responsibility to remove it for disposal.

Toilets

No allowance for toilets at this site. Site is ‘local level’ aimed at residents to come (walk/ride) and stay for a shorter period of time.

Dog Park

This site is not suitable in size for a dog park. There are a number of ‘fenced’ dog parks within Casey. Those close to this site include; Pasadena Dog Park - 413 Clyde-Five ways Rd, Clyde and Selandra Blvd Reserve - 130 Selandra Blvd, Clyde North.

Playground Equipment – Swings, trampoline, flying fox

There is a provision of 3 x swings for this site. A standard and infant swing seat as well as a basket style which caters for all abilities. Unfortunately budget does not allow for the provision of an inground trampoline or flying fox on this occasion.

Note: Casey has 2 x fully accessible Liberty Swings available for use Ray Bastin Reserve, Narre Warren and Casey Fields, Cranbourne East.

Nature Play

The design shows the inclusion of rocks, layout to be determined on site during construction. Additional softfall mulching and tree planting is included to the perimeter of the new playground.
