Project info

The Victorian Government is committed to protecting Melbourne’s green wedges and farmland. This consultation, run by the State Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), have developed planning options to deliver lasting protection of agricultural land and guide decision-making in our green wedges and farmland within 100km of central Melbourne. These options are outlined in DELWP’s Planning for Melbourne’s Green Wedges and Agricultural Land: Consultation Paper, which is available to download on the Engage Victoria project page here.

The City of Casey has prepared a submission in response to the proposed options, which was considered at the Council meeting on 1 December 2020. The report can be found in the agenda for the Council meeting here.

The new consultation paper was prepared in order to consider a planning response after in 2019 the Victorian Government engaged with farmers, community members, industry, local government and stakeholders to test criteria for protecting agricultural land around Melbourne. You can read the previous consultations findings in a report here.
