Project information

To enhance participation and opportunities to drive innovation and test emerging technology within Casey, Council is creating the Smart City and Innovation Community Reference Group.

In early 2021, Council released the Smart Casey Launchpad which is a strategic program to drive smart city action within the City of Casey. According to Council, a smart city puts its community first, adjusting to serve them and their growing needs. It applies digital technology, data and innovative practices to improve livability, sustainability, collaboration and economic opportunities.

To support that, a Community Reference Group was established. Members meet on a quarterly basis to share their insights and contribute to the implementation of the Smart Casey Launchpad through smart city projects, innovation experiments. They are also be champions for driving local change through smart city and innovation initiatives and often attend local events.

The objectives of the Group are to:

  • Increase the deliberative participation of residents and relevant community groups in the smart city and innovation process
  • Encourage and support activities and events which promote smart city and innovation initiatives
  • Increase the profile of Council’s innovative activities with local community groups
  • Oversee the implementation of the Smart Casey Launchpad program and provide ongoing feedback about policies, projects, partnerships and initiatives

After a successful first two years of the Community Reference Group, Council is seeking more members to join who have broad community experience and have a passion for utilising emerging technology, data and innovation to drive better outcomes for our community, economy and environment.

The Community Reference Group is not just about technology so Council encourages applicants from a range of diverse backgrounds including local community service organisations, education, sustainability, start-ups, businesses and other key local industries.

A Terms of Reference has been provided (see document library) which was updated by the group in 2023.
