Casey, like much of greater Melbourne, has experienced rapid growth in housing costs. in 2021 it was estimated that 7,421 Casey households had an unmet need for affordable housing (Housing id, 2021).

The City of Casey believes that there needs to be increased state and Federal investment in social and affordable housing in the municipality, with a focus on groups at the highest risk of homelessness, to ensure everyone has access to a safe, accessible home.

In addition, to support local action, Casey supports an exemption or remission from the Windfall gains tax where Council owned land is rezoned to facilitate strategic asset management and/or affordable housing outcomes.
