School Refusal

15 April 2021

Mother talking to female child

We often hear from parents unsure what to do when their child becomes distressed about attending school and refuses to go. This is occurring more often since COVID-19 and we would like to share how we work with children who school refuse:

  • Firstly, we encourage parents to be involved. Your children need your support as they can’t do it alone
  • Secondly, it’s important for parents to build their knowledge and learn some strategies to deal with this
  • Thirdly, parents can learn how to manage their own difficult feelings. Children will learn through a caregiver’s role modelling
