Casey's Open Data - accessible and publicly available data in one place
Part of our Smart City discovery has been looking at the datasets that we have available to us which are valuable to the community. Rather than keeping this data behind the customer service counter, we have released as much of it as we can through our Open Data Exchange Platform. Some of our most used datasets include:
- Aboriginal Regions across Victoria
- Parks and Reserves Locations
- Library Locations
- Acid Sulfate Soils
- Waste Collection Areas
Open data helps people source the information they need about their community quickly, easily and effectively.
Casey's Open Data Exchange was recognised by the MAV (Municipal Association of Victoria) Technology Awards for Excellence in 2022, by winning the Data and Insights award category. Read more here.

Building innovation capability within Council
At Casey, innovation is the mindset and approach to solving a challenge in a new, collaborative way that pushes the boundaries and adds tangible value to the Council and community.
The Innovation Team sits within the Smart City and Innovation Team. They aim to build innovation capability in teams and create value for our community.
An internal Innovation Program was developed for City of Casey staff and launched in 2021, aiming to increase the innovation maturity of the organisation, whilst delivering value for the community by supporting teams to apply innovation tools and processes to strategically aligned projects.
Program initiatives include Innovation Bootcamp, Innovation Consulting, Strategic Innovation for Leaders, and Innovation Training Workshops. With support from innovation facilitators, project teams explore their challenge and ideate, prototype and test solutions to deliver validated outcomes for Council and the community.
