The City of Casey has now applied for $250,000 funding from the Victorian Government’s ‘2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund’ to incorporate all-inclusive active recreation into the upgrade of the Ray Bastin Reserve.

This funding has a particular focus on providing new and improved infrastructure to encourage community participation, connection, and inclusion.

The Project:

The Ray Bastin Active Recreation Project will deliver additional infrastructure for active recreation for the community. The design is community focused and addresses the needs of three distinct demographics through the provision of three new Active Recreation Zones with an interconnecting fitness loop. Designed to provide areas for Seniors, All-abilities and Youth while maintaining the expansive central grassed area for active recreation and events.

If successful in receiving funding from the Victorian Government, this project will deliver:

  • 1.6km interconnecting circuit path with seating and signage
  • Seniors Zone with fit-for-purpose exercise equipment
  • All Abilities Zone including
  • Fit-for-purpose exercise equipment
  • Multi-use half court, adjacent to Youth Zone
  • Youth – Adult Zone
  • Multi-use half court with provision for Basketball, Netball, Soccer, and handball
  • Landscaping

The uniting theme for the Reserve is to provide an aesthetically pleasing gathering place for the community with a strong cultural connection. This will be achieved through co-designing with Casey’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and wider community engagement through the design development stages.

Cost:

The scope of this application forms part of a larger project valued at $3.095 million. Council is seeking to co-fund this project with the Victorian Government, including seeking $250,000 from the Local Sport Infrastructure Fund. If Council is not successful in receiving funding, the project delivery timing will be reassessed to when Council has the additional rate funding to deliver the project.

Timing:

If successful in receiving funding from the Victorian Government, these works will be completed within the next 18 months
